It's Been A Long Time

Now For A Update

Well the last time I blogged was in April, we had made the decision to retire in May, and on May 15th, we pulled the plug and headed out on our adventure. We miss our friends in Roswell a lot. However we have made friends throughout our travels and time has past really quickly.
We started out adventure, traveling to Texas to reestablish our new residence. We landed in Livingston and began the paper work side of getting everything set up a Texans. This is a time consuming endeavor, but not bad, if you do your homework and have the proper paper work pre-completed. Mailing address, first then, license plates and registrations, then Driver licenses and voter registration.  While doing this, we stayed at the  Escapee Park in Livingston and the people at the park and the DMV couldn't have been more helpful.
While in Texas we moved from Livingston to Jasper, to spend some time with my sister and husband. We had a great visit, spent some time fishing, playing golf and working on their collection of 1968 Mopars. It doesn't get any better then that.

While we were in Texas, with drove up to Plano and attended out two grandsons birthday parties. Bridget(our daughter) and her husband Jack, have a couple of great kids. Grandma and I love playing with them.

After spending 3 1/2 weeks in Texas it was time to head for our summer destination in Colorado, so after a 3 day drive (dang, Texas is big) we arrived at Fun Valley RV Resort, a few miles west of South Fork. We set up for the next 3 months. If you have never been to Fun Valley, you are missing out. This park has everything, fishing, live country music, paddle boats, putt putt golf, and the best people you will ever meet. We met and made friends throughout the summer and these are good people. They took us in and we felt welcome. We enjoy their company tremendously.

Home in Colorado

Did I mention great people

Did I mention fish.
While we were in Colorado with had a surprise visit from Janice's sister and Mother.

After their visit, we loaded up the truck (left the Mountaineer at Fun Valley) and head west to Utah to visit my sister. Lynn and Tom have a cabin in the mountains. Again we had a lot of fun, playing golf, fishing, and relaxing while touring the area in their Ranger.

Did I mention Fish
More to Come, This is just a taste of what we have been up to.

Well, IT'S Time

Well, the 2016 date, is now May 15th, 2015. After 17 weeks in the Mountaineer, and some serious consideration, we have decided to retire a year early. We have notified our employers, with four weeks notice and we are set to go.
Our first stop will be Livingston, Texas, to finish setting up our domicile, new address has be done, now for the second time in 4 months, we get to change addresses again. Fun, Fun, Fun. We will be getting our registration and licenses, insurance, etc set up when we arrive in Livingston. Looking forward to getting this chapter of our lives started. We have enjoyed our time at Trailer Village, in Roswell. Meeting a lot of great people and hearing a lot of stories from fulltimers to vacationers. There are a million stories out there and we hope to add some of our own.
We have made some changes to the trailer, just little things, added satellite TV, some new storage ideas, ice maker and a new washer/dryer combo. The last, Janice is mastering more and more.
We will post more frequently when we get on the road, until then, travel safe.

Three Weeks and Going Strong

Well, its been a little over 3 weeks, fulltime in the Mountaineer, nothing has broke or fallen off. I am really amazed at how well this unit is insulated (both temp and sound) both much better then the High Country. We are still sorting things out. Finding a place for this or that, mainly for the convenience. We have a pretty good spot at Trailer Village, parking for both vehicles and quite a ways from the highway.
Sweet Pea, the cat from hell, is settling in just fine, of course she should, she runs the joint and pretty much has her stuff in order.
We had our first holiday in the 5ver, Valentines day. We used the opportunity to try out the out door kitchen, steak, potatoes and beans. Can't beat that, no matter how you cut it. The weather has been great for the most part, the weekend was perfect, t-shirt weather and a great day for golf with my buddy, George Libby.
So all goes well on the home front. We continue forward.

This week we travel to Dallas to see the Kids and the Grandkids, Grandma, is really excited, (well....... maybe me to), looking forward to it. We will also get a chance to go to the Dallas RV Supershow, sounds like a fun time all the way around. Janice gets to go shopping with her partner in crime-Bridget,.......and Jack and I get to watch :-)  Well maybe we will get to do a little shopping to. Hmmm, I believe they gave me a gift card for Christmas for Cabela's, and Jack mentioned something about a big golf store. This is sounding better and better by the minute.

Until the next time, travel safe.

Full Time, NOW

Well,we moved into the Mountaineer January 25th. We (Janice) did the final clean up of the house and moved the last loads to the storage locker and landfill. On the 29th we closed on the house. It has been one hell of a month. The changes of address, needed for everything, such as insurance, driver license, banking, investing, cutting of utilities, locating a new lot for the Mountaineer, getting the roof done on the house, dealing with the insurance on that........ well, like I said its been one hell of a month.
We landed the 5ver in a spot at "Trailer Village" just east of Roswell. Trailer Village is a great RV Park, owners Erin and Debbie are good people, and offer a great park. WiFi, TV Cable, propane sells and laundry mat. All top notch. I highly recommend it, for a stay or an overnight.
I would like to say that the 5ver was ready for the move..............but, we were so busy getting the house ready that the Mountaineer was more of a place that we could move our belongings into, that we knew we were taking, then a house. So once we got it set up at Trailer Village, then we started arranging the 5ver for living in it. This is much different then taking it on vacation. Janice and I have both worked on clothes storage and have that sorted out. Janice, has been busy setting of the kitchen and sewing room. Bathroom(s) have been added to and made functional, again, for living full time, not vacationing. We made a couple of runs to the store for things like can racks for storage, shelving for under the sink, and in a couple of cabinets. But things are coming together really well.
One thing that one gets to except as normal, is communications, phone, internet, mail. All have to be set up and matched to your needs. Internet was simple enough, just adapt your cell phones, laptops, notebooks, and table top computer to a new WiFi signal. Set up your blue tooth connections for wireless printing, Ain't technology grand. :-)
We slept in this morning until 9:00, first time that has happened in years. We needed to deflate. Then today more rearranging and on we go. Things are starting to slow down, and the plan is coming together.
For those that don't know and haven't had the pleasure of meeting our cat, "SweetPea", Janice and I own the CAT FROM HELL, the family can vouch for this. She is a Russian Blue and hates change, hates all people except Janice and myself. She made the move with us, she has adapted well so far, found all the windows that the sun shines in and were to lay during different times of the day, so far, so good.

Well the journey has begun, until next time, have fun and travel safe.

Time Flys and The Days Go By.

Well, since the last post, we have been moving forward, after two garage sales, jeez, we have a lot of stuff. We have the storage locker and have been making truck load trips. Janice has done a herculean job on the inside of the house, closets, cupboards, every other place were things are stored. Do you know how much China and glassware gets accumulated over 38 years of marriage. Do you know how long it takes to bubble wrap and box 3 sets of China and all the other glasses that goes in a house. How many boxes get hauled to storage. I have started cleaning out shop. That has been a pain, tools to the trailer, tools to the roll away that's going to storage, and tools that have to be handy for last minute things on the house and 5ver. We are moving forward at warp speed. But things are going well, just really busy. One more garage sale, and that will be it.
The nice thing about selling the house to friends, it has made things so much easier than to a stranger. They came over today and pick out what they wanted us to leave, as far as some furniture, shop toolboxes and storage lockers. This works out so well for both parties. They get a deal on items and don't have to move it in, and we don't have to move it out. This is a god send for this 58 year old back. Plus, we get to go through things like spare parts for the house, such as sprinkler systems, well system, septic system, how the remotes work to everything, how the video camera security system works, these are the things that you have to figure out when you buy a new place. Kind of nice to be able to show someone you like, how things work around the house and enjoy doing it.
So between moving out of the house and loading and prepping the 5ver, it is busy, and none stop. Just a word to those that are thinking about or are getting ready to start down this road, go closet by closet, drawer by drawer and throw away all the stuff that is crap. We thought we had pretty clean areas, 12 large contractor trash bags later said no. Trust me, if you haven't used it in the last 10 years and if it was destroyed or lost, and you would not go buy it, to replace it. You most likely don't need it anymore. And you really do feel good when you look around and think, wow, why did we keep all this crap. Minimizing really has a great side to it.
Until the next time, travel safe and stay warm.
